Compassion and empathy

Well I went and picked up my food at St-Vincent de Paul in Val Caron. I came in the front of the store (it was really busy) and asked to register for the food bank. I got a few looks from the customers which made me feel bad. Kathy quickly brough me to a private office where I did my 'in-take' with a wonderful person name Maria. Everyone who helped me register, prepare my box of food, gave me tips and helped me carry it to the car was compasionnate, caring and showed great empathy for all the customers. I felt at ease talking to them. It was nice to see such a caring group of people.

The box is heavy, that gives me hope although there is nothing fresh. I saw a farmer coming in to donate carots but they were not for me.
I then proceeded to drive to Peterborough, race in the "Head of the Trent' on Saturday and drive back to Sudbury Saturday night. With pasta, eggs, bread and peanut butter I was OK for the race and our crew from Sudbury did very well.

Trying to fit in a high protein, high carb diet from a box on the road was a real pain and the drive home was torture. While my companions bought food on the road I ate my granola bars and drank water. I don't remember the last time I had hunger pains like that, if ever. I barely made it home, cooked the one frozen dinner they had given me and ate it so quickly followed with half a box of digestive cookies that it gave me a sore stomack.

I have to plan things better. Forget about getting my work done in preparation for next week, I am planning my menu. I will never be hungry like that again.
