I read the blog a few below me, about the teacher. Was it Larry and Kathy?
One of the reasons I wanted to do this challenge is because of those types of assumptions. There are people in all social and economic stratas who cheat the system, and the poor aren't the only ones. But the vast majority of people on OW or ODSP aren't out to screw over the system.
I've also heard people say "Oh look how fat she is, she's not having any problems with not having food to eat."
I'm overweight myself, and I'm looking at the food in my basket. Here's what I see: carbs, carbs, carbs, carbs, carbs, carbs, sodium, sodium, sodium, sodium, sodium. This stuff leaches away energy - and you need energy for school, for searching for better work, for keeping yourself healthy...getting out of the situation which has you relying on OW, for example.
It doesn't matter how much you eat, it matters WHAT you eat. I wouldn't be surprised if I gained weight on this food before the week is done. And this food - it's a heart attack and diabetes fest waiting to happen.
It's great people help out donating food, but I think a lot of us don't realize what we're donating to help out isn't really the best option.
As for my eating today, I've had a bun and two slices of toast, all three with salt-reduced margerine. I suffer from migraines and it exploded mid-morning, probably about 6 am, and I've slept most of today and eating makes me nauseous.
Hopefully it will be treating me better by tomorrow. I'm pretty sure this isn't challenge related since I've been having headaches off and on all week.
