There are four of us doing the challenge in our household. The two adults have vowed to continue until the end, but the two kids are going back to school tomorrow, and there's nothing we can send them for lunch. Peanut butter is not allowed. They won't eat the prickle pear jam. So we've made a decision. We will supplement their school lunches with food we buy. For breakfast they have to eat the Life cereal we got from the food bank. Unfortunately half of our milk is gone and I don't think it will last until Friday. For supper, the kids will eat what we eat. Karen and I are eating two meals a day. For breakfast this morning we had eggs on toast. (four eggs left) Supper was half the pasta and sauce. Tomorrow it's oatmeal in the morning and dinner is one can of vegetable soup split four ways with crackers.
I hate to think about the children who have to rely on the food bank. The one can of juice we received Friday is gone. There's nothing left to drink except the two litres of milk, and our family goes through up to 20 litres in a week. We can't in good conscience let our kids go to school without the vitamins and nutrients they need. Even by supplementing their lunches, they're going to suffer. Think of the families that don't have a choice.
